The most important question that arises almost every tourist is “What to see on the island of Majorca?”. We are all addicted to emotions and want to bring back a lot of good memories from our trip, in addition to the pounds we have eaten.

Depending on your preferences, you can choose your itineraries to see what you want to see in Mallorca.

So, let’s take a look at the different options.

What to see in Mallorca from architecture

In Mallorca, over many centuries of history, different cultures and peoples have left their mark. This can also be seen in the architecture. Palma is one of the cities with the greatest history and number of architectural monuments.

Start with a round lock Belver, located on a hill. From its walls you can see the whole of Palma, the port, and in the history museum inside the castle you can look at the preserved exhibits and understand the history of the island of Mallorca.

The little-known but interesting Spanish Village will serve as an express journey through Spain’s most popular cities. In this open-air museum, houses, palaces and buildings characteristic of a particular region of Spain are presented in a scaled-down (but not in miniature) form.

So where to next? What else is there to see in Mallorca? Well, of course you have to move on to Palma’s old town. Here you can wander all day (or even more than one). Read more about  Palma de Mallorca You can find out in one of our articles. But I will at least list what you should visit and see while in the old city.

Start with the majestic Cathedral. Inside there is a museum, very interesting, and the cathedral itself is amazing from all sides. Opposite the cathedral – Almudaina Palace. One part of it is still owned by the Spanish royal family and the other part is open to the public. The following are freely accessible royal gardens with fountains.

Behind the Cathedral is the old town. The narrow streets of this city are one of the favorite places for walking. They have changed little since the past centuries and tourists and locals alike enjoy wandering between its walls. Vehicles are restricted (only authorized vehicles with official permission can enter the place), so the walk promises to be comfortable.

We recommend not to miss another architectural structure in Palma de Mallorca – Church of St. Eulalia. Entrance is free. It is one of the first churches to appear on the island after the overthrow of the Arabs. Inside, there is also a miraculous cross with Jesus Christ, which was brought to the island in 1229 during the conquest of Mallorca.

The City Hall of Palma de Mallorca, the capital of Palma de Mallorca, is just a stone’s throw away. Its facade is also worth a look and a good look at it. And if you want to get inside the building (yes, yes, you can do that too), you can sign up for a free Sunday tour, which is conducted in Spanish and English. The building from the inside is so different from our usual idea of what City Hall might look like that you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the beauty of its decoration. 100% worth seeing.

Opposite the Town Hall is the oldest olive tree on the island of Mallorca. It is estimated to be over 1,000 years old, but this only adds to its solidity. They say you should make a wish here and it will come true. Well, we won’t lose anything if we do it, and then we’ll see the result.

Not everyone vacations in and around the city of Palma de Mallorca. So let’s move on.

Other Mallorca cities with beautiful architecture to see

City Valldemossa is so popular that it is known among tourists, almost like Palma de Mallorca. The medieval spirit, which the locals still maintain, swirls in the air. It is a town where you want to get lost. Flowers in pots, which are abundantly hung on the walls of houses, give the city colorful and charming. What about the architecture? Yes, it’s not without it. The Cartesian monastery with its garden, King Sancho’s Palace, and every house in Valldemosa is worth seeing and capturing.

Continue on to Soller. This is the most French town on the island of Mallorca. Its style is reminiscent of French Provence. The most important building to see in Soller is the Church of St. Bartolomeu. While you’re there, and it’s probably a hot day, go to the old ice cream parlor, famous for its natural ice cream. Mmmmm, delicious! And there’s a lot of choice!

Well, everyone’s heard of the wooden The Soller train, which has been running from Palma de Mallorca to Soller since 1912. The ticket is a bit expensive, so if you want to save money, you can take the wooden streetcar from Soller to the port of Soller.

In the North of the island it is worth visiting Alcudia and its old town, enclosed by medieval walls. You can walk around the town by climbing the walls and from there you can see the panoramas of the old town and the surrounding countryside from above.

What to see in Mallorca for free

Various crafts have flourished in Mallorca for centuries. For example, it is very interesting for both children and adults to see how glass blowers made glass. Glassworks Mallorqui still makes traditional handmade glassware, each one unique and authentic as everything is done by hand. The furnaces are burning all day long and the glassblowers are always welcoming new visitors. There you can travel back a few centuries and see how the process of creating glass products took place when production was not yet on the assembly line.

You can see how Majorcan cultured pearls, which are hard to distinguish from the real thing, are created at the Majorica pearl factory. You can also buy a pearl gift at the factory’s large store.

To see how the well-to-do lived and what their estates looked like, you can (and should) at the Raisha Manor (Raixa). It sounds unappealing, but we’re sure you’ll love it! It’s not just the house, but the gardens, the bespoke architecture, the history of Majorcan families and life in Mallorca. The views from the gazebo will make up for the heat if you go there in the summer. Take along some cookies to feed the huge carp that live in the man-made reservoir lake on the estate.

And a must-see in Mallorca is. Military Museum with a huge collection of cannons, swords, knives pistols and other military ammunition, which it is a sin to describe – you need to see everything yourself.
