Sa Calobra is one of the most picturesque coves on Mallorca’s west coast, with a beautiful gorge beach. This is the place where the movie Cloud Atlas was filmed, where the ships of the visionaries sailed the seas and Tom Hanks’ character and his daughter sat on the shore. This unusual beach is a destination for thousands of tourists who head here when summer is upon the island. In winter, however, the place is often deserted and you can fully enjoy its romance.
Torrent de Pareis and its beaches
Torrent de Pareis is a 3 km long canyon surrounded by vertical 200 meters high walls, between which the beach of Sa Calobra is hidden. There is no sand to be found here, you will have to sit on white pebbles. The beach is famous for its romance, clean waters and depth. Another goal of all tourists is the fabulous Torrent de Pareis caves leading to the famous beach.
By the way, you will be able to visit two beaches. The first one is 100 meters away from the parking lot. It is surrounded by restaurants and cafes, where you can refresh yourself. This beach is more suitable for those vacationing with children, as it is shallower.
In addition to this place it is worth noting that there are more than 300 species of flora and fauna.
The turquoise waters and high cliffs are the perfect place where the so-called «Concert de Sa Calobra.” It is absolutely free to get to this concert to watch singers and bands perform.
How to get to Sa Calobra
There are various ways to get to Sa Calobra. You can charter a boat in the port of Soller and admire part of the Sierra de Tramuntana mountain range from the sea.
You can book a transfer with a driver, who will take you to the bay quickly and along picturesque zigzag roads, bypassing the famous “tie knot” (360 degrees turn). In one place the road passes through a cleft in the rock. Beautiful photos are provided.
