The Palma Aquarium is a great alternative to an active and educational vacation on the island of Mallorca.
A visit to the Palma Aquarium thrills children, teenagers and even adult children (up to and even beyond the age of 80). It is visited by 400,000 people every year! That’s quite a figure!
In 2014, it was recognized as the best tourist attraction in Palma, the best marine park in the Balearic Islands and one of the best in Spain.
It is located 500 meters from the beach of Palma. Its doors have been open to visitors since 2007. Visitors to the Palma Aquarium will dive into the underwater world and see amazing representatives of flora and fauna. More than 8,000 specimens of 700 different species of marine life live in 55 aquariums. The themed halls of the Mediterranean Sea, the Indian Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean will surprise and delight with their motley colors and diversity.
Thematic areas of the Palm Aquarium
The Palma Aquarium is divided into themed zones. The Mediterranean zone has 24 tanks with typical Mediterranean species. One of the aquariums is called “Toca-Toca” (toca is Spanish for “touch, touch”). Here visitors can touch some of the fauna.
Another 25 aquariums show representatives of the Tropical Waters. These are various species of fish and marine plants from the Indian, Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
The most exciting according to most people and according to the emotions of the children, is Big Blue. It is the deepest shark aquarium in Europe. It is 8.5 meters deep, 33 meters long and 25 meters wide. To fill it, 3.5 million liters of salt water had to be poured in. More than 1,000 fish live here alongside 8 Brazilian and tiger sand sharks. The panoramic view and the transparent tunnel allow you to view these marine animals from different angles.
What’s a sea without jellyfish? About 50 jellyfish live in a cylindrical tank, moving leisurely.
At the Palma Aquarium you will find Mediterranean gardens with characteristic vegetation and pools with turtles, colorful Japanese carp, sea bream, stingrays.
The tropical garden (jungle) presented in the Palma Aquarium is the second largest in Europe. Moisture generates a small waterfall and vaporizers generate an Amazonian microclimate.
AquaDome at the Palm Aquarium
AquaDome deserves special attention in the Palma Aquarium. Especially for it was created a huge dome of 250 square meters with a 360-degree view. Here you can see the life of humpback whales. This project was created to bring awareness to the environmental crisis created by man.
Many people know about the famous Pacific plastic island. It is a floating pile of garbage (bigger than Texas) that drifts between Hawaii and California and causes irreparable damage to the ecosystem and all the inhabitants of the sea waters. The bottom of the Mediterranean Sea has also become a huge dirty plastic dump. Perhaps by knowing more about the lives of marine animals, we will reflect on our consumption habits and the marine species that suffer from them.
AquaDome Palms is a must visit for anyone who wants to deepen their knowledge of whales, listen to their songs, learn their history and become more sensitive to environmental issues in general.
In addition to fish and gardens, the Palma Aquarium has a café, fountains where children can cool off, and various play areas. For example, you can become a pirate and go treasure hunting on a huge pirate ship. You can jump on inflatable slides. There is also a recreation area for the youngest ones.
The Palma Aquarium is open 365 days a year. A visit to the aquarium takes an average of 3-4 hours. There is a public parking lot nearby if you plan to leave by car. If you do not have a license and transportation, you can order a transfer service from Palma or another city, and we will bring and pick you up at the time you need us.
Prices on the Palma Aquarium website are subject to change as they often offer promotions or special offers for families. Pensioners, on the other hand, are entitled to a discount.
